A car crash involving a hydroplaning pickup truck and a tractor- trailer resulted in one fatality and two others injured, Wednesday morning, March 11, on Highway 90A at East Street in Altair.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, at around 11:55 a.m., a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado traveling eastbound on Highway 90A hydroplaned into the westbound lanes. The Silverado collided with a 2025 freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer traveling westbound.
The driver of the Silverado, Francisco Martinez Castro, and the front passenger, Filemon Martinez Castro, both of Columbus, were injured and transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Katy.
However, back-seat passenger Marcelino Castro Ramos, 45, of Columbus, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. Officials pronounced Castro Ramos deceased at the scene.
The driver of the freightliner was Silvio Jose Garcia, 68, of East Bernard.
Highway 90A was temporarily closed for a few hours for cleanup. The crash remains under investigation.
