The Columbus Lady Cardinals basketball season came to an end earlier than they would have liked this season.
Despite the earlier than expected exit from the playoffs, the Lady Cards still captured the District Championship and are still earning some honors from the district.
The All-District team selects multiple standout players from each team in the district to form something like an All-Star team. The Lady Cards performed so well that they had nine of their players selected to be on the All-District team.
Starting things off was Thea Schobel who was named the District Offensive MVP for the 2025-26 season. Schobel was the heart and soul of the Lady Cards this season as she was always in the middle of every big play for them on offense and defense.
Next were the girls that made the First All-District team, and they were Ava Heffley, Anaya Gardner and Presley Drozd. Heffley was easily one of the best if not the best guard in the district this season as she helped facilitate offensively and was a force to be reckoned with on the defensive side of the ball.
Gardner was another very important piece for the Lady Cards this season. She was an offensive guru this season, scoring around 15-20 points a game for the Lady Cards.
Gardner was also a big defensive threat for the Lady Cards this season as she dominated in the rebounding category all season long. Then there is Drozd who should consider changing her name to Stephen Drozd the way she can shoot from three-point land.
She was seemingly automatic for the Lady Cards shooting the three ball and always came up big in crunch time when the Lady Cards needed a score.
Now onto the Second All-District team and there were two Lady Cards that were named to this team. Candee Pitchford and Jada Brown were both selected for the Second All-District team and for similar reasons.
They both were defensive monsters that showed a ton of offensive upside in their game. Pitchford’s ability to use her speed and size to come away with steals was huge for the Lady Cards transition game this season and directly led to points throughout the season.
As for Brown, she was just like Pitchford as she came away with several steals that led to points. But Brown also had a knack for shooting and making three-pointers for the Lady Cards this season and was an excellent complement to Drozd coming off the bench.
Then last but certainly not least were the honorable mentions consisting of three Lady Cards, Faith Menke, Gabby Wasrschak and Lexi Kulhanek. These three helped maintain the status quo for the Lady Cards.
They did not log a ton of minutes this season, but when they did, they played a very steady game. They did not give up much to the opposing team while also finding different ways to get points on the board.
These Lady Cards worked their tail feathers off this season on the basketball court, so it is always nice to see them get recognized for all their hard work.
