The Columbus Cardinals baseball team picked up their eighth win of the season to improve to an 8-7 record in 2026.
The Cards defeated the Palacios Sharks this past Tuesday night with a score of 8-3, so let’s look at what happened.
The Cards were the road team in this game, so they were batting first, and they took advantage of the opportunity. The Cards were led off with a single from Ryan Carter which was followed by a pop fly from Jayden Spaulding which was caught for the first out.
Brody Tribe was then walked and that brought up Britton Wolters who hit a line drive into left field. He ended up on second base for a double that brought home two runs to give the Cards an early lead.
The Weston Krpec hit a single that brought home another run for the Cards. This gave them a 3-0 lead going into the second inning.
After keeping the Sharks off the board in the bottom of the first inning, the Cards went back to work on offense. Parker Meyer got the party started with a leadoff double, but it was followed by two outs from the Sharks.
Spaulding was then walked, which brought Brody Tribe up to the plate. He then smacked a ball deep into right field for a double which scored a run for the Cards.
Wolters then stepped up to the plate and hit a single which brought Tribe home to give the Cards a 6-0 lead. Colby Mathis was pinch running for Wolters, and he was able to score on a wild pitch to give the Cards a 7-0 lead.
Wyatt Tipton was then walked, but Palacios got the third out before Tipton could do any damage on the bases. The Sharks then broke through the Cards defense and scored one run on the bottom of the second inning to make the score 7-1 going into the third inning.
The Cards gave up two more runs to the Sharks in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 7-3. But the Cards responded in the seventh inning scoring one more run as Cade Neumann was able to make it back to home plate for the final run of the game.
The cards now look ahead to their next game against Hallettsville on Tuesday, April 7, at 7 p.m.
