Weimar Library celebrates national poetry month

This April, the Friends of the Weimar Public Library celebrates its fifth anniversary of National Poetry Month, welcoming people of all ages and backgrounds to engage with poetry in meaningful ways through a free program, featuring readings, snacks, conversation, and relaxation.

Scheduled for Thursday, April 23, the 5th Annual Open Mic Poetry Night will take place at the Weimar Gazebo located next to the library at 1 Jackson Square at 6:30 p.m. Come to read, listen, converse with neighbors, and enjoy a beautiful spring evening in this quiet outdoor setting. Bring your poems, family and friends, blanket or lawn chairs.

Members of Friends of the Weimar Public Library will furnish snacks and drinks.

Weimar’s Open Mic Poetry Night first launched in 2022 and has become an annual literary celebration for our community. It has created opportunities for children, young adults, parents, and seniors to read, share, and experience poetry, affirming poetry’s place as a vital part of our culture.

Throughout April, communities and community libraries and schools across the nation will offer a range of free programs, resources, and vevents designed to make poetry accessible to everyone in celebration of this national event. Attendees to our Weimar event can participate as readers, reading their favorite poet’s work or their own original poems; as an audience to the presenters; or as supporters of our library, enjoying the camaraderie of neighbors and friends.

Over the years, National Poetry Month has become the largest literary celebration in the world. Friends of the Weimar Public Library is proud to participate in this event. Poets who wish can have original poetry entered into an Anthology of poetry read at the yearly event by emailing the poem(s) with name and phone number to [email protected].
