The Columbus Lady Cardinals took on the Rice Consolidated Lady Raiders this past week and came away with their 17th win of the year.

The Lady Cards picked up an 18-0 win over their cross-county rival, and they were helped by an offensive explosion in the first three innings.

In the top of the first inning, Peyton Drozd hit a single that brought home two runs to give the Lady Cards a 2-0 lead. In the top of the second inning, the Lady Cards were led off by a double from Presley Drozd. Then Kayley McCarthy hit a single that drove Drozd home to make the score 3-0.

Hattie Post hit a single then Keylea Foster hit a triple then Allie Cranek hit a sacrifice fly ball. This sequence of events resulted in the Lady Cards extending their lead to 6-0, but they were not done yet.

Peyton Drozd hit another double and that was followed up by Emma Beauchamp, who hit a homerun to extend the lead to 8-0. In the top of the third inning, the Lady Cards were led off with a walk then Demi Roecker and McCarthy hit singles which drove home a run.

Foster then hit a single to bring in a run followed by Cranek hitting a home run, and then Beauchamp hit another home run to put the Lady Cards up 14-0. Then finally in the top of the fifth inning the Lady Cards drove the nail in the coffin.

Foster hit a single, then Cranek hit a triple followed by a double from Averie Miller and then a double from Beauchamp. This scored three runs to make the score 17-0, and Trinity Hopkins drove home the final run of the game with an RBI double to make the score 18-0.

While the offense did their thing, McKenna Eden was in the circle for the Lady Cards, and she pitched an excellent game. She gave up only one hit while striking out eight batters in five innings.

The Lady Cards now look ahead to their next game in their schedule when they will play Tidehaven on Tuesday, April 14, at 6 p.m.
