Alliance for College & Career student success posts 5K results
Thankful for the rain over this last weekend, the organizers of the Alliance for College & Career Success (ACCSS) 5K were even more grateful that the weather held off and was perfect for their 3rd annual event. Held on Saturday morning prior to the kick-off of the Schulenburg Sausagefest, 90 athletes registered to run/walk and support ACCSS scholarships for students participating in academic dual credit and workforce credential courses.
The airhorn blew promptly at 9 a.m. on April 11, and it was just 18:11.848 minutes later that Laine Brown, who lives in Boerne but grew up in Schulenburg, crossed the finish line as the fast male.
The fastest female was Flatonia ISD student Jaylee Grifaldo, who completed the 5K in 22:45.306. Each received some a goodie bag with dried sausage and a gift card to go and purchase more sausage along with a customized ACCSS 5K medal.

ACCSS is a collaborative program involving Blinn College District and eight regional independent school districts including Schulenburg, Flatonia, Weimar, Columbus, Fayetteville, Moulton, Dime Box and Sealy ISDs. Believing that rural youth deserve the opportunity to dream big and pursue their goals, the ACCSS program works to ensure that every student, regardless of background, has access to the opportunities needed to thrive in the pursuit of their educational and career aspirations by providing academic and career resources, guidance, and comprehensive support essential for students to attain post-secondary credits or workforce career credentials.
Athletes, sponsors and supporters are asked to mark their calendar for next year’s event, which will be held on April 3, 2027. For more information on ACCSS, please visit their website www. myaccss.net or contact Susie Shank, ACCSS Director, at 979-743-5239.
