Columbus Trash Off Days closed Saturday with the City of Columbus and local volunteers demonstrating a strong commitment to a clean and more beautiful community.

The city of Columbus has supported Trash Off Days since 2007 by providing Large Item Disposal for Columbus citizens at the City Maintenance Yard. The city ensures proper disposal of items brought in by residents by working with Texas Disposal Systems.

The city of Columbus will continue helping residents by providing free limb chipping service this week, April 13 – 17. Citizens must call City Hall at 979-732-2366 in advance to schedule chipping. All limbs should be placed at the curb (not in the street), away from meters, utility access holes, and drainage areas. Limb chipping is available for “do-it-yourself” homeowner trimming projects. It is not available for professional tree trimming projects.

Local volunteers joined Columbus Trash Off Days by beautifying public gardens, picking up litter in area parks, and along highways. Columbus Trash Off Days are part of the statewide Keep Texas Beautiful “Don’t Mess with Texas” clean-up campaign and the Great American Clean Up. This year “The Greatest American Clean Up” is celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary. Spring beautification activities continue until May 31st. You can still join Keep Columbus Beautiful’s Spring Clean Up. Call/Text 979-7334343 for details, or to report your volunteer work. Keep Columbus Beautiful is a project of Columbus Garden Club.
