The Columbus Cardinals picked up their 14th win of the season April 23 after they defeated the Yoakum Bulldogs.

The Cards came away with a 5-1 win over the Bulldogs, and the win solidified the Cards in a playoff spot.

To start this game, it was a strong defensive showing from both teams as the game was scoreless for the first two innings. The Cards finally opened the scoring in the third inning to give themselves a 2-0 lead.

The runs came after Ryan Carter hit a single, followed by Jayden Spaulding getting walked to get two runners on base. Britton Wolters then was walked to load the bases up and with two outs on the board Weston Krpec hit a single that drove home two runs to give the Cards a 2-0 lead.

No runs were scored in the fourth inning but in the fifth inning the Bulldogs got themselves on the board. They scored one run to cut the Cards lead down to 2-1 but in the bottom of the fifth they extended their lead.

The Cards scored two more runs thanks to back-to-back singles from Brody Tribe and Wolters to score one run. Then Wyatt Tipton hit a sacrifice fly ball to drive in the second run and give the Cards a 4-1 lead.

The Cards held the Bulldogs to zero runs int he sixth inning and in the bottom of the sixth the Cards scored once more to arrive at the final score of 5-1.

The Cards are in a playoff spot and await to see who their firstround opponent will be, but the Cards are hungry for postseason baseball and have big goals set for their team going into the playoffs.
