The Columbus Lady Cardinals won the bi-district championship after sweeping the Luling Lady Eagles last Thursday, April 23.
In a three-game series, the Lady Cards needed only two games to punch their ticket to the Area Round.
Game 1: W, 13- 0
In the first game of the series, the Lady Cards were held scoreless int he first inning but came roaring back in the second inning. In the top of the second inning, Aggie Rodriguez led off with a ground out to get one out on the board.
But then, Presley Drozd smacked a ball into center field for a double to get a runner on base. Demi Roecker then hit a single to bring Presley Drozd home for the first run of the game. With two outs on the board, Kaylea McCarthy hit a ball deep into left field for a double which brought home another run for the Lady Cards. McCarthy went on to steal third and then home to give the Lady Cards a 3-0 lead.
In the top of the third inning Emma Beauchamp scored the lady Cards lone run and it was a home run that was hammered over the left field wall. In the top of the fourth inning, Demi Roecker scored the lone run for the Lady Cards after hitting a single, then steal second and third base and eventually stole home to make the score 5-0.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Lady Cards scored four runs, and it started with a single from Kaylea Foster. After Foster’s single, Allie Cranek came up to bat and hit a triple to bring Foster home.
Then Peyton Drozd hit a home run that was again smacked over the left field wall to give the Lady Cars an 8-0 lead. Shortly after Peyton’s sister, Presley Drozd hit a home run as well to make the score 9-0 going into the sixth inning.
In the sixth inning, the Lady Cards scored four more runs thanks to a single from Cranek and Rodgriguez that drove in two runs and made the score 11-0. Then Kaitlyn Torres and Rodriguez both stole home to arrive at the final score of 13-0.
Game 2: W, 16- 0
In game two of the series, the Lady Cards once again shut Luling out and needed only four innings to get the job done. The Lady Cards came out firing on all cylinders in the first inning where they scored nine runs.
Beauchamp hit a double to bring home the first run of the inning, then Cranek hit a double to extend the Lady Cards lead to 4-0. Followed by Roecker who hit a double to bring the score to 5-0.
McCarthy and Foster both hit singles to drive in three tuns and make the score 8-0, and then finally Cranek brought home the ninth run of the inning to make the score 9-0. In the second inning, the Lady Cards continued their offensive pressure and scored three runs.
Roecker hit a triple to drive home a run followed by a single from Hattie Post to bring Roecker home and make the score 11-0. Then Foster drove home the final run of the inning after hitting a single.
Leading 12-0, the Lady Cards scored four more runs on the fourth inning to drive the nail into the coffin. Foster hit a single that brought home two runs, and then Cranek hit another triple to bring home two more runs to arrive at the final score of 16-0 to capture the Bi-District Championship.
The Lady Cards now set their sights on the Are Round of the playoffs where they will look to capture the Area Championship and advance to round three.
