The Marion Bulldogs eliminated the Columbus Cardinals in two straight games as the Cards bowed out of the Class 3A baseball playoffs.
Marion took the first game of a best-ofthree game series Thursday, May 7, 11-1 and then completed the sweep on Friday, May 8, by a score of 10-2.
In the first game of the series, Marion jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning before Columbus was able to cut the lead with a marker in the bottom of the third. But Marion came right back in the top of the fifth inning to push across five runs to take a 7-1 and then finished off the game with four runs in the seventh inning.
In game two of the series, Marion came out and quickly took control of the game with a five-run lead at the end of two innings of play. Columbus cut into the lead with a run in the top of the third, but Marion matched it with another run to keep a 6-1 lead. In fact, Marion would score in every inning of the second game to claim the series win.
