Approximately 9% of registered voters broke Colorado County’s record for early voting turnout for a runoff election last week, according to the county elections office.
Election Day for the runoff of the March primary was Tuesday, May 26. Voting had not yet concluded when the Citizen went to press. Visit coloradocountycitizen. com for results Wednesday.
The 2024 runoff election held the record before voters crushed it by a few hundred votes this year.
“Hopefully, the momentum continues through election day,” elections administrator Rebecka LaCourse said. “The average turnout for a runoff election is 1,843 (votes).”
Colorado County counted 1,323 total early voters over the course of five days. The 1,222 majority (92.37% of votes) of in-person voters were Republican, and all Republican ballots numbered 8.88% of registered voters in the county. This doubled the statewide 4.4% of registered voters who voted Republican.
The remaining 101 in-person votes (7.63% of votes) in the county were Democratic voters, and all Democratic ballots made up just 0.95% of registered county voters. Colorado County Democratic voters fell short of the statewide 1.86% of registered voters who voted on the same ballot.
