The Weimar City Council postponed a decision on repairs and possible upgrades to a water storage tank at Water Plant 3 during its June 11 meeting, opting to wait for additional information before selecting a contractor.
Council members reviewed proposals from three engineering firms for work on the city’s 200,000-gallon ground storage tank, which has developed a leak. The proposals ranged from approximately $23,000 to nearly $60,000 and included varying levels of repair and improvement work.
City Director David Mason said Utility Director Michael Beyette recommended STW Consultants, but council members expressed interest in reviewing options that would address additional maintenance issues identified during inspections.
Councilman Kyle Christen noted that one proposal included upgrades to the tank’s ladder and vent system in addition to cleaning and sealing work.
After discussion, council members agreed to postpone action until Beyette can provide additional input on the proposals and project needs.
Wilson resigns from council
The council also announced the resignation of Councilman Ronell Wilson, who is stepping down because of health concerns.
Speaking on Wilson’s behalf, Mayor Carlton Tucker said Wilson felt he could no longer serve the city as effectively as he would like.
“Sadly, our friend and councilman has had to step down because of his health issues,” Tucker said. “He has served the city for decades in all kinds of positions.”
The council plans to appoint a replacement to serve until the next election. Tucker said the city will accept names from residents interested in filling the position.
At press time, no appointment had been made.
