Rapid water accumulation fol lowing recent rains preceded Columbus Volunteer Fire Department responding to a call for a water rescue Saturday, June 20.
At approximately 5 p. m. , CVFD was dispatched to a water rescue on Robert Lane.
Officials said that a vehicle attempting to cross a low water crossing was swept off the roadway and into the creek. Responders arrived on scene and found the vehicle ful ly submerged, with the vehicle occupant standing on the roof awaiting rescue.
CVFD’s Swi ft Water Rescue Team successfully rescued the victim without injury.
“This incident serves as an important reminder that moving water is often more dangerous than it appears. Whether at a creek crossing, low water crossing, or flooded roadway, water conditions can change rapidly, and vehicles can quickly lose traction or be swept away,” CVFD said in a social media post following the incident.
