Partners promote ‘100 Safest Days of Summer’ campaign

As summer begins, Watch UR BAC, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) are encouraging teens and families to make safe driving a priority during the “100 Safest Days of Summer” campaign.

The period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is often referred to as the “100 Deadliest Days of Summer” due to an increase in crashes involving teen drivers. Through education and outreach, the partnership aims to reduce crashes caused by impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding, and failure to wear seat belts.

“Our goal is to help young drivers understand that every choice they make behind the wheel matters,” said Ravonne McCray, Program Manager for Watch UR BAC. “By encouraging safe driving habits and responsible decision-making, we can work together to make this summer safer for everyone on Texas roads.”

Watch UR BAC, a program of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension funded by TxDOT, provides interactive traffic safety education to youth and communities across Texas.

“Michelle Wright, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Agent for Austin County, said, ‘Summer is a great time for young people to enjoy their freedom, but it’s also important to stay focused on safety. We encourage families to talk about safe driving and set clear expectations before teens hit the road.’” The campaign reminds drivers to buckle up, eliminate distractions, obey speed limits, and never drive impaired.

Together, Watch UR BAC, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, and TxDOT are working to make this summer the safest one yet for Texas teens and families.
