Columbus Major All-Stars capture district championship

The Columbus Major All-Star baseball team captured the district championship on, June 19, after a hard-fought district tournament.

The team posted a perfect 4-0 record in the tournament, defeating Bellville, Rice and Washington County twice.

In their first game against Bellville, Columbus picked up their first win. They jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the end of the first inning. In the second, they extended their lead, scoring two more runs and then scoring once more in the third inning.

Leading 6-0, Columbus held onto their lead until the fifth inning where they once again extended their lead by three runs. Now with a 9-0 lead, Columbus gave up four runs to Bellville in the fifth and sixth innings to arrive at the final score of 9-4.

In game two of the tournament, Columbus needed only four innings to win the game over Rice Little League. Columbus scored seven runs in the first and five runs in the second to carry a 12-0 lead up until the fourth inning.

Columbus scored one more run in the top of the fourth inning, and then Rice scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. The final score was 13-1, and Columbus improved to a 2-0 record.

In game three Columbus faced Washington County for the first time and came away with a 2-0 victory. The game was scoreless until the sixth and final inning, and Carson Berger hit a ground ball into left field that brought home two runs and gave Columbus the victory.

In their second matchup against Washington County, Columbus found themselves trailing 1-0 by the end of the second inning. They came back and scored four runs in the top of the third to take a 4-1 lead into the fourth inning.

In the fourth inning Columnus scored one run to increase their lead to 5-1, but Washington County responded with one run of their own to make the score 5-2. In the fifth and sixth inning Columbus scored one run each while Washington County scored once in the sixth inning for a final score of 7-3.

This victory awarded Columbus the district championship, and they accomplished this goal because of great all-around team play. Each player had their moment to shine in this tournament, and they put together a perfect record to win the district championship as a team.
