VETERANS CORNER
Members of Columbus Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1127 received the welcome home many never experienced after returning from military service when they participated in Honor Flight Austin No. 105 on May 15-16.
During the trip, the veterans visited the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., where they located the names of five Colorado County service members who were killed in Vietnam, as well as friends and fellow soldiers with whom they served.
The trip also became especially meaningful for the group as it was one of the final journeys shared with veteran, historian, veterans’ advocate and Citizen contributor Dr. Bob Lowe before his passing.
Front row, from left, are Bob Lowe, Wayne Givens and David Brown. Second row: Tom Foster, Tommie Yates, Dave Zachmeyer, Bill Hargrave, Roque Castillo, Roger Moyers and Larry Herring. Back row: Richard Chance and Jerry Gipson. Not pictured is Eddie Hernandez.
