AUSTIN — The recent release of State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness 2026 results from spring testing indicates that area schools are showing progress, TEA officials said.
A breakdown from the state includes STAAR results for the Columbus Independent School District, the Rice Consolidated Independent School District and the Weimar Independent School District for grades three to eight and high school end-of-course exams.
Columbus ISD STAAR grades 3-8
Columbus ISD's strongest reading performance came in seventh grade, where 81% of students met the state's Approaches Grade Level standard or higher. Fifth grade led the district in advanced achievement, with 55% of students reaching the Meets Grade Level standard or above and 35% earning the Masters designation.
Sixth grade recorded the district's lowest Approaches rate at 62%.
Fourth- and fifth-grade students posted Columbus ISD's strongest mathematics results. Fifth grade recorded the highest Approaches rate at 76%, while fourth grade led the district in both Meets (57%) and Masters (29%). Seventh- and eighth-grade mathematics were the district's most challenging grade levels, with just over half of students meeting the Approaches standard.
On the Grade 8 Social Studies STAAR assessment, 47% of Columbus ISD students met the state's Approaches Grade Level standard or higher.
Nineteen percent reached the Meets Grade Level standard, while 9% earned the Masters designation.

Columbus ISD students posted “exceptional” results on the spring 2026 STAAR End-of-Course assessments, led by U.S. History and Biology.
U.S. History recorded the district's highest overall performance, with 98% of students meeting the state's Approaches Grade Level standard or higher, 68% achieving the Meets standard and 30% earning the Masters designation.
Only 2% of students did not meet grade-level expectations.
Biology also posted outstanding results, with 94% of students meeting the Approaches standard or above, including 64% reaching the Meets level and 28% earning Masters, the district noted.
English II outperformed English I, while Algebra I saw nearly three-fourths of students meet the Approaches standard or higher.
Rice CISD STAAR grades 3-8
Rice CISD students posted their strongest reading performance in fourth grade, where 82% of students met the state's Approaches Grade Level standard or higher, according to the state.
Eighth grade led the district in advanced achievement, with 51% of students scoring at the Meets Grade Level standard or above and 24% earning the Masters designation. Sixth grade proved to be the district's most challenging reading assessment, with 63% of students meeting the Approaches standard or higher.
Fourth-grade students recorded Rice CISD's strongest math performance, with 79% of students meeting the Approaches standard or higher. The class also led the district in both Meets (61%) and Masters (28%) performance levels. Seventh-grade math was the district's most challenging assessment, with 16% of students reaching the Approaches standard or above.
On the Grade 8 Social Studies STAAR assessment, 31% of Rice CISD students met the state's Approaches Grade Level standard or higher. Nine percent achieved the Meets Grade Level standard, while 1% earned the Masters designation.

Rice CISD students posted their strongest End-of-Course performance in U.S. History, where 94% of students met the state's Approaches Grade Level standard or higher.
The subject also recorded the district's highest Meets performance at 60%, while only 6% of students did not meet grade-level expectations. Biology also produced strong results, with 81% of students meeting the Approaches standard or above.
Algebra I and English I proved to be the district's most challenging End-of-Course assessments. Fifty-seven percent of Algebra I students and 58% of English I students met the Approaches standard or higher. English II showed improvement over English I, with 63% of students meeting grade-level expectations and 43% achieving the Meets standard.
Weimar ISD STAAR grades 3-8
Weimar ISD students posted outstanding reading results across all grade levels.
Sixth grade led the district with 78% of students meeting the Meets Grade Level standard or higher, while seventh grade recorded the district's highest Masters rate at 48%. Four grade levels posted Approaches rates of 88% or higher, with fourth grade reaching 95%.
Mathematics was another area of strength for Weimar ISD. Fifth grade posted the district's highest Approaches rate at 96%, while eighth grade led in advanced achievement with 75% of students reaching the Meets standard and 34% earning Masters. Sixth grade also recorded a strong performance, with 93% of students meeting the Approaches standard or above. Seventh grade mathematics was the district's lowest-performing grade level, though 60% of students still met the Approaches standard or higher.
On the Grade 8 Social Studies STAAR assessment, 67% of Weimar ISD students met the state's Approaches Grade Level standard or higher. Nearly half (47%) reached the Meets standard, while one-fourth of students earned the Masters designation.

Weimar ISD students posted great results on the spring 2026 STAAR End-of-Course assessments, with every subject recording at least 84% of students meeting the state's Approaches Grade Level standard or higher, according to state results.
U.S. History led the district with 98% of students meeting grade-level expectations, while more than half of those students (53%) earned the Masters designation. Only one student, or 2%, did not meet grade-level expectations.
Biology also produced outstanding results, with 96% of students meeting the Approaches standard or above, including 82% reaching the Meets level and 46% earning the Masters designation. Algebra I and both English assessments also performed well, with Approaches rates ranging from 84% to 86%.
