COLUMBUS — Fire departments and first responders from across the region came together to honor the life and legacy of former Columbus Volunteer Fire Department Chief Bobby Walla during funeral services this week.
The Columbus Volunteer Fire Department thanked neighbor ing agencies for their support, saying the turnout reflected the strong relationships shared throughout the first responder community.
Departments from La Grange, Garwood, Eagle Lake, Weimar, Bernardo, Frelsburg and Fulshear- Simonton joined the procession and services, along with the Colorado County Office of Emergency Management, the Texas Department of Public Safety and Fort Bend County EMS.
While firefighters attended the services, the Colorado County Office of Emergency Management and the Bernardo and Frelsburg volunteer fire departments provided coverage for the Columbus department’s response area, ensuring emergency services remained available throughout the funeral.
The Columbus Police Department also assisted by directing traffic and helping the funeral procession move safely through the city.
In a statement, the Columbus Volunteer Fire Department said the support demonstrated the brotherhood, sisterhood and mutual aid that define the fire service.
“The overwhelming support shown by our neighboring departments and fellow first responders is a reminder that no department stands alone,” the department stated. “Thank you for helping us give Chief Walla the honorable farewell he so richly deserved.”
