Colorado County officials firmly believe that you deserve to know—the facts. To protect yourself from false reports, the county urges all residents to look to established, official county outlets before trusting third-party internet sources.
A common frustration for residents is searching for information during an active situation and finding nothing published on official channels. If you cannot find details about an ongoing event, please know there is typically a highly valid, responsible reason for the silence, such as:
• An active, ongoing investigation where releasing details prematurely could compromise public safety or the integrity of the case.
• County departments are waiting on further, verified information from state, federal, or emergency resources to ensure what we release is 100% accurate.
• There is technically nothing to report yet. In our commitment to facts, Colorado County will not post speculation, guesses, or halftruths.
Colorado County utilizes a multi-layered approach to ensure every resident has access to timely, official, and vetted information:

• Avoid unexpected delays. All official county road closures and construction notices are updated and posted directly on the main county website.
• The Colorado County Sheriff’s Office operates a dedicated mobile application. Residents can download this app on their smartphones to receive direct alerts, press releases, and public safety updates straight from law enforcement.
