EAGLE LAKE — Sixty- five years after exchanging vows in a small church ceremony, Daniel and Inez Matura are still celebrating life’s milestones together.
The couple marked their 65th wedding anniversary July 22 at Arbor Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Eagle Lake, where staff recognized the longtime couple with anniversary wishes.

Daniel and the former Inez Alley were married July 22, 1961, in a ceremony at First Baptist Church in Eagle Lake, according to the July 27, 1961, edition of the Eagle Lake Headlight.
The newspaper reported that the Rev. Boyd Harris officiated the afternoon ceremony, while Clara May Nash provided wedding music. Given in marriage by her father, Wiley Alley, the bride wore a blue street-length lace dress over taffeta with white accessories and carried a white chrysanthemum nosegay.
Elizabeth Ann Alley, the bride’s sister, served as maid of honor, while Alfred Matura stood beside his brother as best man. Following the ceremony, family and friends gathered in the church recreation room for a reception before the newlyweds departed on a short wedding trip to begin their life together in El Campo.
The Headlight noted that Mrs. Matura attended Columbus High School, while Mr. Matura graduated from El Campo High School.
Sixty-five years later, the couple continues to inspire those around them. Arbor Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center recently honored the Maturas on their anniversary, celebrating a marriage that has endured for more than six decades.
