COLUMBUS — Colorado County Commissioners will hold a public hearing Aug. 24 on proposed speed limit reductions for County Roads 222 and 2103.
The hearing was scheduled during the July 27 meeting of Commissioners Court after Precinct 2 Commissioner Ryan Brandt said residents have raised safety concerns following recent road improvements.
Brandt said hills and limited visibility along portions of the roads make it difficult for drivers to see oncoming traffic and other hazards.
The proposal would lower the speed limit on County Road 222 to 40 mph. On County Road 2103, the paved section would be posted at 40 mph, while the gravel section would carry a 30 mph speed limit.
Brandt said speeding has also created safety concerns for road crews, noting workers were often forced to move into ditches to avoid passing vehicles during recent construction.
"We ask that you follow the speed limit," Brandt said. "If you choose not to, well, that's your business. But one day there might be a deputy sitting there."
Commissioners are expected to consider the proposal following the public hearing during their Aug. 24 meeting.
