Vet clinic shooting suspect faces updated charges, $1.5 mil bond

COLUMBUS — Columbus Animal Clinic shooting suspect Robert Axel received updated charges and appeared for a non-trial court date Aug. 5.

Robert Jerome Axel, 50 of Katy, was booked into the Colorado County Jail July 10 on four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following a shooting at the clinic earlier that evening around 5:04 p.m.

Axel now faces an additional charge of attempted murder, a second-degree felony according to the Texas Penal Code. The first-degree felony charges of aggravated assault are now listed as being associated with a mass shooting.

Axel still remains in custody at the county jail. His bond increased from $500,000 to $1,500,000.
