The Weimar Ladycats volleyball team was back on the court at Rice Consolidated High School for scrimmages on Friday, Aug. 7.
The scrimmages were all 30 minutes long with a running clock and gave coaches an opportunity to evaluate their teams. The Ladycats played hard and their new Head Coach, Sabrina Ferguson, said she liked how they played as a team.
“I think we are playing for each other, and the girls are really excited to be here,” Ferguson said. “I like that we are increasing our tempo and we are all on the same page and it’s really nice.”
With this being their first showing of the year, Ferguson expected mistakes and told her team to play fearlessly throughout these scrimmages. But she does not want them to play that way just scrimmages; she expects them to play that way all the time. “We can’t be afraid to make mistakes, mistakes happen on the court and in life,” Ferguson said. “I do not care if it is a scrimmage, a game, a practice or something in life. We want our girls to be fearless, make mistakes and learn.”
The Ladycats will open their season on Tuesday, Aug. 11, on the road against La Grange and then travel to Columbus to participate in the Kecia Davis Memorial Tournament on Thursday, Aug. 13, through Saturday, Aug. 15.
