“This team has a lot to prove. We didn’t end the season how we wanted to in 2025 and have to work really hard to prove people wrong,” Wildcats Head Coach Dylan Conway said.
The Wildcats ended the 2025 season with an 8-3 overall record and a 4-2 district record to enter the playoffs in fourthplace district standings.
Their season came to an end in the bi-district round of the playoffs where Refugio won with a score of 35-23.
The Wildcats will be without their star running back, Jerron Fisher, this year. Despite losing Fisher, the Wildcats have plenty of returning players that can help the Wildcats push their way back into the playoffs this season.
“Returning quarterback and free safety Colling Morrison, running back and linebacker Ty Chmelik and Ace Mesa along with Brady Montgomery anchoring our offensive and defensive line are returning letterman who contributed immensely to our success last year and have step up as leaders over the summer,” Conway said. “Lucas Moreno, Treycen Espitia, Juan Rosales saw playing time last year and will have to step up big this season.”
The Wildcats have been building to another successful season in 2026 as they look to make the playoffs again in 2026. Conway said that success they want to see starts with a relentless effort in practice.
“Relentless effort, being a great teammate and competing are 3 things we are trying to accomplish over the next few weeks,” Conway said. “We have returning letterman in spots but will also have to gain some players execute who haven’t played on a Friday night yet.”
Conway has tasked some of his players with stepping up for the 2026 season, which seems like a big task to accomplish, especially for young players. He said he does not want them to feel any pressure to perform and just focus on getting better every day they are on the field.
“’Be Better’ has been our message for over a year now,” Conway said. “We preach that every day you should find at least one thing to get better at. Have a mindset that when we are at practice, ‘There are NO bad days’. We get the opportunity to dictate our circumstances while we are with the team. You either, get better or you get worse, you won’t stay the same.”
Dave Campbell’s Texas High School Football has predicted the Wildcats making it back to the playoffs.
For Conway and the Wildcats, the ultimate goal is to finish each week 1-0 and worry about playoffs when the time is right.
The Wildcats do have a few games circled on the calendar this season against Schulenburg, Shiner and Flatonia.
“Schulenburg is the rivalry game every year. This year, with them moving to 3A, we will face off during the preseason,” Conway said. “Shiner enters the district and will be another tough test. We end the season with Flatonia at home, which is always a tough and exciting game, no matter what the records are.”
The Wildcats will start their season on Friday, Aug. 28, when they start on the road against Boling.
