Weimar Mayor Carlton Tucker praised Weimar Police Department Chief Jason Smalley for fully staffing the department, increasing community outreach and more in his first four months of leadership.
Coming from Bel lville Police Department, Smalley started his position in April with a staff of three out of eight positions. According to the city, Smalley reached full staff in July and added a currently vacant officer position.
Notable staff changes include the hiring of Christopher Rosales as lieutenant and the promotion of Jim Powers who serves as animal control and code enforcement officer to also serve as administrative sergeant.
“Chief Smal ley has brought positive changes to the department while encouraging communication, open discussion, accountability and leading by example,” Tucker said in the post. “The team he has built continues to work hard to be visible and engaged in the community, support local businesses and help keep our residents and visitors safe.”
Tucker also commended Smalley for increasing participation in community events and building relationships with residents and local businesses and organizations. Tucker noted that the department is preparing for National Night Out in October.
“As mayor, I am incredibly proud of the relationship between our community and the men and women who serve it,” Tucker said. “It reflects the small-town values and welcoming spirit that make Weimar such a special place to call home.”
