COLUMBUS — The City of Columbus will celebrate a $36,000 grant aimed at expanding local recycling services with a public presentation and facility tour.
The city received the 2026 H-E-B Recycling for Texans Grant through a partnership between H-E-B and Keep Texas Beautiful. Funding will be used to purchase a new baler, expand recycling education and outreach and update signage at the city’s recycling center.
The improvements are expected to increase the center’s capacity to process recyclable materials and strengthen recycling services available to area residents.
Community members are invited to attend the grant presentation, which will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28 at The City of Columbus Recycling Program, located at 1427B Montezuma Street ( behind the soccer fields at the Community Park) in Columbus. Representatives from the city, H-E-B and Keep Texas Beautiful will participate.
The program will begin with welcome remarks at 11 a.m., followed by remarks from city officials and H-E-B Environmental Affairs representative Anahi Villarruel. An official check presentation and group photo are scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
Beginning at 11:40 a.m., attendees will be invited to tour the recycling center and visit with community leaders and program partners. The event is scheduled to conclude at noon.
