The Weimar Wildcats picked up their first win of the year after they defeated Stockdale on Friday, Sept. 4, at Weimar High School.
The Wildcats defeated Stockdale with a final score of 44-8 in a dominate blowout victory in front of their home crowd.
The Wildcats opened the scoring in the first quarter after a two-yard run to give them a 7-0 lead. The Wildcats followed that up with a score in the second quarter from Ty Chmelik, who torched Stockdale’s defense for 94 yards to the end zone.
The Wildcats then converted on the two-point attempt to give themselves a 15-0 lead. Stockdale came back with a touchdown and two-point conversion of their own to cut the Wildcats lead down to 15-8, but that would be the only time Stockdale would score in this game.
Collin Morrison found Cayden Conway shortly after the Stockdale score for a 59-yard passing touchdown. After a successful two-point conversion, the Wildcats lead 23-8.
After the passing touchdown, the Wildcats forced, recovered and returned a fumble to extend their lead to 30-8. They carried that score into halftime and then came back in the second half to score two more touchdowns, Ace Mesa and Lucas Moreno each scored one touchdown in the second half of the game to arrive at the final score of 44-8.
Morrison had a great night under center for the Wildcats, completing seven of his 14 pass attempts for 126 yards and one touchdown. Chmelik led the rushing attack with seven carries for 114 yards and a touchdown while Mesa and Moreno combined for 61 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, the Wildcats recovered three fumbles in the win over Stockdale and Mesa led the team with seven and a half tackles and five tackles for loss. Joshua Wright also had a big game for the Wildcats defense racking up six and half tackles.
The Wildcats will now hit the road for their week three match up against Luling on Thursday, Sept. 10, at Luling High School looking for their second win of the year.
