Lifelong Columbus resident, Dorothy Fitzgerald celebrated her 99th birthday on Wednesday, Sept. 9 in Alleytown.
Fitzgerald credits her faith in Jesus Christ for helping her to reach 99 years of age.
Over the years she has served in many capacities at St. Paul United Methodist Church and has been a model and inspiration to many in the community. She also served as a teacher at Columbus Independent School District.
She taught Home Economics for 37 years at Columbus ISD where she was able to influence many students’ lives. After she retired and became a mentor and helped spread her knowledge and wisdom to the next generation.
With everything she did in life, she did it with love and kindness and has built a legacy that will bless, inspire and shape future generations. She is a living legend that knows the best legacy one can leave behind is not money or other material things, but rather a legacy of character and faith.
