COLUMBUS — RO Manor Banquet Hall overflowed with women of faith Saturday, Sept. 19, as the Columbus Christian Women’s Organization gathered for its annual gala.
Guests enjoyed a meal, fashion show, silent auction, bucket raffle and an evening of fellowship, all centered around this year’s theme, “What’s on Your Bucket List?”
The theme carried through the evening’s fundraising activities, with live auction items offering experiences ranging from an afternoon tea party in Fayetteville to a two-night stay, dinner and a show at the Wynn Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Vance Elliott served as auctioneer for the live auction.
The bucket raffle continued the travel theme, featuring trips to destinations including Africa, England, Scotland, Egypt, Thailand and Alaska.
Beyond the evening’s entertainment, proceeds from the gala help CCWO continue its mission of supporting organizations and programs throughout the community.
Since its 2025 gala, CCWO has presented grants to organizations including Boys & Girls Clubs, Columbus Education, Columbus Food Pantry, Columbus Hospital, Gabriel Project, Habitat for Humanity, Nesbitt Memorial Library, Turtle Wing Foundation, Wellness Council of Colorado Valley and Youth & Family Services.
Funds raised through the gala also allow CCWO to host its “Credit for Life” programs in area high schools and “Senior Smiles” programs benefiting residents of local nursing homes.
The organization describes its mission as being “committed to promoting Christian life in its communities through the combined talents and efforts of its members,” with a special emphasis on children.
More than 25 years of service CCWO’s roots date back to 1999, when eight women gathered at St. John Episcopal Church to organize the group. Martha Hastedt was elected its first president in 2000.
In December 2007, CCWO received 501(c)(3) status as a charitable organization. Since its beginning with eight women, the organization has grown to 147 members, according to information published by the Columbus Chamber of Commerce.
Shirley Isbell currently serves as CCWO president and gala chair, working alongside Denise Oncken and CCWO Vice President Susan Chandler.
Membership is open to anyone interested in the organization’s first-Thursday luncheons, fellowship and community projects, including the annual gala.
More than a quarter- century after eight women first gathered at St. John Episcopal Church, the annual gala continues the organization’s tradition of bringing women together through faith, fellowship and service while raising funds that are returned to organizations and programs throughout the community.
