Lady Cards defeat East Bernard in four sets

The Columbus Lady Cardinals picked up their 28th overall win and third win in district play after they defeated East Bernard on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Columbus High School.

The Lady Cards started the match off by losing the first set and then went on to win the next three sets to win the match.

In the first set, the Lady Cards were handed a loss after they scored 23 points. The set ended with a final score of 25-23 in favor of East Bernard.

This gave the Lady Cards some extra motivation going into the second set of the match and came out strong. The Lady Cards defense came out and limited East Bernard to 15 points as the Lady Cards captured their first set win of the match with a score of 25-15.

In the third set East Bernard came back and scored 22 points, but the Lady Cards continued to play at a high level. They closed out the set with a final score of 25-22 to take a 2-1 set lead into the fourth set.

In the fourth set, the Lady Cards limited East Bernard to 16 points as they closed out the match with a 25-16 set win.

The Lady Cards were led by Harper Gerik, who recorded 39 kills in the win over East Bernard. Close behind her was her teammate Bella Love who recorded 32 kills in the win over East Bernard.

Riley Kainer and Lucy Schobel led the Lady Cards with 19 assists each in the win over East Bernard. Schobel also had a big game in the kills category, being third on the team with 23 kills.

The Lady Cards will remain on their home court as on Thursday, Sept. 24, when they will face the Rice Lady Raiders at 6:30 p.m. at Columbus High School.
