Lady Raiders fall to Hallettsville in district play

The Rice Lady Raiders fell to 0-2 in district play after losing to Hallettsville on Tuesday Sept. 15.

The Lady Ra iders lost this match in three straight sets but continued to fight until the very end.

In their last district loss Lady Raiders head coach Morgan Hunter said her team needed to maintain their confidence throughout the match. Against Hal lettsvi l le the Lady Raiders kept things close in every set and played to their potential.

In the first set of the match the Lady Raiders scored 15 points in a 2515 loss. They came back in the second set and scored 12 points in a 25-12 loss.

In their last district game against Schulneburg the Lady Raiders were down two sets to zero. They entered the third set looking defeated and Schulenburg quickly ended the match.

Against Hallettsville the Lady Raiders entered the third set with a sense of optimism. They started the set with a ton of confidence and ended up scoring 17 points which was the most they scored in a set during this match.

While this set ended with a loss for the Lady Raiders, they showed that they have a ton of potential to compete with anyone in the district. It also showed that this team is ready and willing to listen to their coach, and they responded by playing with more confidence throughout the match.

The loss still stings, but it was a learning lesson for a team that continues to improve every game. They are starting to believe in the season again and even though they lost this match, they proved they still have more to show as they continue their district schedule.

The Lady Raiders will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 24, where they will face the Columbus Lady Cardinals at Columbus High School.
