Cards beat Bellville by three, improve to 4-0

The Columbus Cardinals picked up their fourth win of the season over their longtime rivals the Bellville Brahmas on Friday, Sept. 18, at Memorial Stadium in Columbus.

The Cards won the game with a final score of 37-34 and were actually trailing at halftime Friday night.

The game opened with the Cards and the Brahmas both scoring the make the score 7-7 at the end of the first quarter. By the end of the second quarter going into halftime, the Cards found themselves down 21-16.

The Cards came back to start the third quarter and scored a touchdown retake the lead with a score of 2321. The Cards and the Brahmas then traded a couple of scores in the fourth quarter and the Cards emerged with a victory of 37-34.

The Cards offense was led by Doc Cantu who had another big game for the Cardinals. He carried the ball 22 times Friday night and recorded 300 yards while finding the endzone four times to help lead the Cards to victory.

Peyton Blakeman led the Cards from the quarterback position as he completed eight of his 13 pass attempts. He recorded one touchdown while throwing for 100 yards in the Cards to win over Bellville Friday night.

Irving Giles was the Cards top receiver as he caught four passes for 78 yards and caught the lone touchdown pass Blakeman threw Friday night.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Cards forced two turnovers and recorded two interceptions. Trey Kohleffel recorded both interceptions for the Cards and played a big role in giving the Cards enough of a cushion on the scoreboard to help them secure the win.

The Cards will b back in action on their home field and for their homecoming game on Friday, Sept. 25, where they will face Fort Bend Willowridge at 7 p.m.
