The Weimar Wildcats picked up their third win of the season after they dominated the Schulenburg Shorthorns on Friday, Sept. 18, at Weimar High School.
The Wildcats picked up a 48-7 win over Schulenburg, but the game was tied by the end of the first quarter.
Both teams found the endzone in the first quarter with Ty Chmelik running the ball in from 37 yards out to give the Wildcats a 7-0 lead. Then a botched snapped on a punt attempt led to a fumble recovery in the endzone by Schulenburg to tie the game up at 7-7.
After that mistake, it was all Wildcats as they scored three touchdowns in the second quarter. Ace Mesa scored twice and Cayden Conway caught a pass from Collin Morrison for the third score.
The Wildcats carried a 27-7 lead into halftime and when they came out for the third quarter, they continued to put points on the board. Chmelik found the endzone once more in the third quarter to make the score 34-7.
In the fourth quarter, Mesa scored once more followed by a one-yard rush from Josiah Okeke to make the score 48-7.
Morrison had a great game from the quarterback position for the Wildcats as he completed 10 of his 16 pass attempts. He recorded 133 yards and three touchdowns and one interception during Friday’s win.
Mesa led the Wildcats on the ground with 13 carries for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Chmelik was close behind him with eight carries for 83 yards and a touchdown then Okeke carried the ball 11 times for 48 yards and a touchdown.
Chmelik was also the Wildcats leading receiver as he caught two passes for 51 yards and a touchdown. Conway also caught two passes Friday night for 32 yards and a touchdown to help lift the Wildcats to a victory.
On the defensive side of the ball Jacob Wick recorded the only interception for the Wildcats. While Juan Rosales led the team with four and a half total tackles during Friday’s win over Schulenburg.
The Wildcats will go back on the road for week five when they face Kenedy at 7:30 p.m. at Kenedy High School on Friday, Sept. 25.
