I’ve been contemplat’n this Guvnrs race and let me tell ya someth’n, I ain’t real sure either of ’em understands folks around here.
Ol’ aButt’s been down there in Austin so long I reckon he’s forgot what it’s like to fill up a pickup, buy a week’s groceries, pay the light bill, and still have enough left to get you to payday. Being on yer feet for 10 hours a day makes a fella know the value of work and that dollar.
Then you got Ol’ Gene-Uh HennaJose. She talks a good game about working folks, but I ain’t convinced she knows much more about a man workin’ twelve hours in a shop, drivin’ a log truck, turnin’ wrenches, or trying to keep a little place going than aButt does.
That’s the problem. Neither bunch seems to understand, we ain’t sitting around all day worrying about Democrats and Republicans. We’re trying to make a damn living.
Everything costs more. Insurance is ridiculous. Property taxes’ll eat your lunch. A hundred-dollar bill at the grocery store don’t hardly fill the top of buggy anymore.
But here’s where it gets interesting.
Ol’ HennaJose has got aButt on the ropes.
Maybe she don’t knock him out. Maybe he comes off them ropes swinging. November’s a long ways off. But a Guvner who’s been running Texas for twelve years ought not be looking over his shoulder at somebody half the folks around here couldn’t picked out of a lineup six months ago.
That oughta tell him something.
Folks are aggravated. Maybe give us a little break buddy. You really need all these gas taxes right now? Maybe get these corporations outta being landlords on every little crappy box of a house in my small town. Hell, I might need some of the gvm’t cheese just to make my lights run - and don’t even get em started on these light bills.
I need ya to get it- to know me and what I’m st ruggl ’ n with. And whichever one figures out that working Texans want somebody fighting for their paycheck instead of another damn political headline might just learn something worth knowing. Maybe they’d even git my vote.
