Frelsburg VFD upgrades local air equipment

Frelsburg Volunteer Fire Department recently purchased new air compressing equipment, gear for a future brush truck and more thanks to two fire and rescue equipment grants from the Texas A&M Forest Service.

The first grant funded a new air compressor, fill station and storage cylinders to work with the new air system they received two years ago. The department said the upgrade will allow them to fill air tanks locally instead of in Columbus and train with the air packs more often.

The second grant funded a gear washer (which the department has never had before), two laptops and numerous supplies for an expected future brush truck: 3,000 feet of fire hose, two chainsaws, 12 flashlights with chargers, two sets of landing zone strobes, five nozzles, hand tools and two ladders.

Frelsburg VFD said the grants are two of five the department received this year. A third grant went towards the purchase of a new brush truck that is expected to be delivered next year. The last two grants will fund personal protection and training equipment.
