Cardinals blowout Fort Bend Willowridge by 65 points

The Columbus Cardinals picked up a big win on homecoming night by defeating Fort Bend Willowridge by 65 points on Friday, Sept. 25.

The game ended with a final score of 68-3 as the Cards remain undefeated in the 2026 season.

By the end of the first quarter, the Cards led the game with a score of 130. They continued to score in the first half while only giving up a field goal to Fort Bend Willowridge.

They carried a 54-3 lead into halftime and coming out of the break the Cards offense and defense did not let up. They finished the third quarter leading the game 61-3 and then in the fourth quarter they scored once more to arrive at the final score of 68-3.

Through the air, Peyton Blakeman completed seven of his 13 passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns Friday night. His top target was Jack Schobel, who caught two passes for 39 yards and a touchdown.

Blakeman’s second touchdown pass was caught by Trey Kohleffel, who caught a one-yard touchdown pass from Blakeman. On the ground, the Cards scored a total of eight rushing touchdowns as they continue to dominate games with their rushing attack.

Doc Cantu led the way for the Cards carrying the ball 17 times for 226 yards and four touchdowns Friday night. Mikael Shifatu carried the ball twice Friday night for a total of 20 yards and scored two touchdowns.

Enoch Loafman carried the ball three times for 27 yards and scored a touchdown for the Cards. Then their last rushing touchdown came from Brennan Hicks, who carried the ball three times for 17 yards and a touchdown.

On defense, Kiyan Johnson recorded one interception and on special teams Irving Giles made eight of his nine extra point attempts. It was a great win for the Cards in front of their home fans on homecoming night.

The Cards will now enjoy their bye week before coming back to start their district schedule.

The Cards will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 9, where they will go on the road to face Edna for their first district game of the year at 7 p.m.
