The Weimar Wildcats lost their second game of the season after being defeated by Kenedy on Friday, Sept. 25, at Kenedy High School.
The Wildcats lost the game with a final score of 40-39 and were one twopoint conversion away from coming home with the win.
The game started with the Wi ldcats finding the end zone first as Ty Chmelik ran the ball in from two yards out. After a missed Point After Touchdown (PAT), the Wildcats had a 6-0 lead.
Kenedy responded with a five-yard rushing touchdown of their own and took a 7-6 lead into the second quarter. In the second quarter, the Wildcats took the lead back after Col l in Morrison found Cayden Conway for a 30-yard touchdown.
Morrison then converted on the two-point try after the touchdown and gave the Wildcats a 14-7 lead. Like before Kenedy responded shortly after but after they missed the PAT, the Wildcats still lead 14-13.
Ace Mesa found the end zone next for the Wildcats as he ran the ball in from 32 yards out to extend the Wildcats lead. After a failed twopoint try, the Wildcats held onto a 20-13 lead late in the second quarter.
Before the second quarter ended Kenedy came back and tied the game up on a 60-yard kickoff return, and the two teams went into halftime with a 20-20 score.
Coming out of halftime, Kenedy took the lead back from the Wildcats with a one-yard rushing touchdown. After a missed PAT Kenedy led by only six points with a score of 26-20.
Conway and Morrison connected again shortly after on a seven-yard passing touchdown. After the PAT was good, the Wildcats were leading the game again with a score of 27-26.
The teams kept trading scores in the third and fourth quarters, and it led to the Wildcats’ final possession of the game, and they were trailing 4033. Chmelik found then endzone for the Wildcats to make the score 40-39, and the Wildcats went for two again to try and win the game.
The two-point try was unsuccessful, and the game ended with a final score of 40-39. Morrison ended the night, completing eight of his 12 passes for 89 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
Conway was Morrison’s top target catching both touchdown passes Friday night. On the ground, Mesa and Chmelik combined for 298 yards and four touchdowns Friday night.

Chmelik also led the defense with seven and a half tackles, followed by Morrison who had six and a half tackles. Jacob Wick recovered the Wildcats only fumble Friday night and Joshua Wright and Brady Janecka combined for the Wildcats lone sack Friday night.
The Wildcats now return home to face Shiner on Friday, Oct. 2, at Weimar High School at 7 p.m.
