Grafe earns Eagle Scout rank

Layne Grafe, a member of Industry Scouts Troop 299, earned the rank of Eagle Scout on Sept. 22.

Grafe is a senior at Bellville High School and completed his Eagle Scout project for the Friends of Zimmerscheidt Historic School at the organization’s historic site along FM 109 between Columbus and Frelsburg.

For his project, Grafe built two rock landscape beds and installed commemorative bricks at the entrance to the site’s pavilion.

Several area residents and businesses donated materials for the project. Scott Kleimann of River Bend Rock Landscape Supplies in Columbus donated decomposed granite, Dale Rinn of Industry donated sand, and Andrew, Clyde and Virginia Heinsohn of Frelsburg donated additional materials.

Grafe is the son of Melanie Heinsohn- Grafe and the late Darrell Grafe. His brothers, Lucas and Landon, also earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 2025 and 2021, respectively.
