ISHEE NAMED RAIDER OF THE WEEK
Rice High School senior Ali Ishee was named Raider of the Week for the week of Sept. 28.
Ishee, the daughter of William and Amanda Ishee, is active in several organizations at Rice. She serves as reporter for the National Honor Society and treasurer of the RHS chapter of the Thespian Honor Society. She also participates in theatre and RHS Journalism.
Her favorite subjects are theatre and journalism, and she named Mrs. Schendel and Ms. Woolridge as her favorite teachers.
Ishee is also a published writer whose work has appeared in The Colorado County Citizen through her journalism class.
Journalism teacher Alesia Woolridge said Ishee’s natural curiosity and love of reading have helped make her a strong young writer.
“Ali has been such a joy to have in journalism because she is naturally inquisitive and genuinely wants to know more about the people and stories around her,” Woolridge said. “She is also a voracious reader, and I think that shows in her writing. Words come naturally to her, and it has been exciting to watch her develop her own voice as a journalist.”
Outside of school, Ishee is an avid reader and enjoys music and art.
After graduation, she plans to attend either the University of Texas at Austin or Texas State University in San Marcos and major in journalism. Ishee admits, however, that she has a preference — she’d like to be wearing burnt orange next fall.
KALISEK NAMED RAIDER OF THE WEEK
Rice High School junior Eric Kalisek was named Raider of the Week for the week of Oct. 5.
Kalisek, who was selected for the honor by the CTE department, is the son of Gene and Sondra Kalisek.
An active member of the Rice High School community, Kalisek participates in FFA, band, baseball, Student Council and National Honor Society.
His favorite class is Plant and Soil Science, taught by Mrs. Walcik, and Kalisek said Mrs. Warschak has been the biggest influence on him during his high school years.
Outside of school, Kalisek enjoys fishing and spending time outdoors with his family. One thing his classmates might not know about him is that he comes from a large family — Kalisek has seven siblings.
After graduating from Rice, Kalisek plans to attend Wharton County Junior College before transferring to a four-year university.
