LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Thank you to all the citizens of Austin County who signed the petition that was circulating in Austin County calling on Governor Abbott to call for an emergency special session to address data centers.

The petitions were picked up Oct. 1, and copies of the petition will be sent to Governor Abbott and Senator Lois Kolkhorst. Austin County’s voices will be heard.

Perhaps you have noticed that Governor Abbott is voicing concern regarding data centers. Still, until he calls for an emergency special session, none of his expressions of concern nor limited regulations will actually ban data centers, battery energy storage systems, 765kV lines, large scale power generation facilities like nuclear plants, wind and solar farms, and other related data center facilities.

Texas desperately needs a ban to provide time to evaluate the impact on county infrastructure and public safety systems and put into place much-needed guardrails. Texas’ counties need to be empowered to take part in these decisions.

Ask Governor Abbott to call for an emergency special session immediately, before the November elections. Please continue to let Governor Abbott know how important this is to you. How important this is to Austin County. How important this is to Texas.
