Weimar residents and other community members may have received an automated phone call Thursday, Oct. 1—the first test run of the city’s new emergency notification system. The city will be transitioning away from CodeRed to CivicPlus.
According to the city, CivicPlus allows the city to share non-emergency notifications like water leaks or repairs, road closures and scheduled power outages in addition to emergency notifications such as boil water notices, power outages, natural disasters, accidents and road closures, manhunts and public safety incidents and more.
“Your city administrators have been working behind the scenes these last several months to bring you an emergency notification system that has more practical and efficient features that can be completely tailored to your preferences,” the city posted.
Users previously registered with CodeRed who received Oct. 1 test call do not need to take further action as the city has transitioned their account over to new notification system.
New users can sign up by visiting weimartx.gov then clicking the “Get Notified” button. Users can then customize how they receive alerts sent out by the city and Weimar Police Department.
