The John Everett Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) proudly recognize Audrey Meyer Smyth for her outstanding American flag display for the month of October. Audrey’s home is located at 905 Anderson Street in Schulenburg.
Audrey attended Bishop Forest High School in Schulenburg. After marrying her husband, Scott, the couple lived in Alabama and several cities across Texas before eventually returning home to Schulenburg. They later found the house they had always wanted—a home that will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2029.
During their years together, Audrey often surprised Scott with improvements to the house while he was away. She oversaw new windows, siding, air conditioning, and even had the original pine floors professionally refinished.
When they moved into their home, Scott’s brother Mike gifted them a flagpole. It was the first home they had ever owned with a flagpole, and they were proud to display the American flag. After Scott passed away several years ago, Audrey continued the tradition. She replaces the flag whenever it becomes worn or tattered and proudly raises a new one. She joked that she has tried for years to win “Yard of the Month,” but said this recognition is even better.
Audrey is also deeply involved with Columbus Rescue Dogs, where she fosters dogs, attends fundraisers, and helps secure donors for the organization. She currently has three rescue dogs in her care, along with five of her own.
At the presentation the Pledge of Allegiance was recited, and David Zachmeyer discussed the Battle of the White 1781Plains which happened in October 1776. We also discussed the 250th Anniversary of our nation.
