The Frelsburg Volunteer Fire Department celebrated the dedication of its new fire station on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 169 Farm-to-Market 109, Frelsburg.

The department recognized the community support, volunteer efforts and funding that made the project possible.

In August 2023, the department secured a $1 million state allocation through Rihanna Jameson and Senator John Huston, distributed through the Texas Forest Service. The funding helped cover construction costs that had increased during the COVID-19 era, allowing the project to be completed in phases without taking out a loan.

YSU Engineering provided design and construction management, while numerous contractors contributed to the building, electrical work, plumbing, flooring and other construction needs. Building committee members and community volunteers were also recognized for their time, labor and dedication.

The ceremony included prayers from the pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church Ivy Schulz, and department chaplain Greg Mankey, who emphasized firefighter safety, courage, family support and service to the community. A special hose uncoupling ceremony marked the dedication, and visitors were invited to tour the facility.

Department representatives thanked the donors, contractors, volunteers and community members whose contributions made the new station possible.
