LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

To my neighbors in the Rice Consolidated School District, We are facing a huge decision with the $55M bond election. There are not that many of us in Lower Colorado County, so these bonds will not get spread out like they would in a more populated county. I think I will see more than a $700/year tax increase for our little 50-yearold house and 5 acres. My disposable income will go down by more than $700/year.

My “disposable” income is what I use to help out. It buys 50/50 tickets at the footbal l games and at the fish fry in NADA. It pays for raffle tickets sold on the stoop at Johnny’s. It helps me participate in the Sheridan Lions. It helps me support some of the student organizations at the High School. I expect some of it will help me follow the Raiders to the playoffs in November.

When I vote “no” on the bonds, I will be choosing to continue to help my community in the ways I feel are most valuable and forgoing the new school for now. If my neighbors choose the bond, they will get my $700/year, and I will lose some of my ability to help out.

I am not saying, “never.” I am saying, “not this much; not right now.”

Bobby Miller
