Columbus Volunteer Fire Department in coordination with Youth and Family Services hosted dozens of community members in a fire safety and prevention awareness event Oct. 21 for Fire Prevention Month. The event distributed fire extinguishers and smoke detectors, donated by the Wellness Council and the American Red Cross, as door prizes. R&R Shaved Ice donated hundreds of snow cones for children and adults alike.
“We love having the opportunity to connect with our community and share important fire safety information,” CVFD posted online. “… Events like this wouldn’t be possible without the support of our community, volunteers, and generous sponsors. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make the evening a success.”
CVFD also announced winners for its Fire Prevention Poster Contest. For pre-kindergarten and kindergarten, Elle Busselman won first; Harlan Gorman, second; and Zulema Pasohondo, third. For first and second grade, Knox Bohuslav won first; Judah Kanz, second; and Sofia Hluchan, third. For third and fourth grade, Alina Kopecky won first; Oliver Wegenhoft, second; and Micah Solis, third. For fifth grade, Laney Glueck won first; Sophia Phillips, second; and Addie Werland, third.
