Revitalization

The Columbus Chamber of Commerce is at the table of many conversations happening in the region that include workforce, transportation, housing, business growth, economic, and community development. Recognizing that we cannot control certain outcomes like weather, national economy, international conflicts, etc., we do recognize that we can help be a builder of and resource to our members and community.

One area where we have recently been able to be a builder and resource is through the Chamber’s Revitalization Grant. Designed for Chamber members, the purpose of the Grant has been to help boost business growth and/or enhance the quality of life in the communities our recipients serve. The Board chose to continue this grant again this year and we are excited to announce, and in no particular order, the recipients of the Grant:

• Boys and Girls Club of Champion Valley

• Columbus Historic Preservation Trust

• T & M Ranch Supply

• Live Oak Art Center

• A Better Columbus

• Potter’s Western Store Congratulations and much appreciation for the impact in commerce and quality of life these organizations provide in the community and region.

Another Revitalization happening is at the Stafford Opera House! If you have not been in the building in the last few weeks the CHPT Board and Board President, Julie Prause, along with Executive Director, Missy Parker, invite you to do so. With the help of the CHPT Board and committee members it is taking on quite a beautiful transformation and as Missy said, “It is beginning to look like an Opera House!” Good things happening and events are beginning to be booked.

We want to take this opportunity to say “Thank You” to our Emergency Management team here in Colorado County with Chuck Rogers Office of Emergency Management Coordinator, and the Texas Office of Emergency Management for Colorado County Danny Al-Batal who serves as the County’s Liaison Officer to the State. Danny put together the February Lunch & Learn on Emergency Preparedness bringing in Randy Vivian Section Chief, Business Outreach of the Texas Department of Emergency Management. Randy gave a great overview for businesses on how to be prepared in case of an emergency. There was interest in making this more community focused. The Chamber’s Lunch & Learns are postponed until July due to construction in the Opera House, preparation for Magnolia Days, and the Business Expo in June.
