Weimar Lions hosts family historian for presentation

Author and storyteller, Elaine Thomas, will be at the Weimar Public Library at 1 Jackson Square to share her expertise on gathering facts and stories in order to preserve a little bit of our history on Friday, Oct. 27 at 10 a.m.

Thomas, well known for her five books recording the stories of people about their homes and memories, is also a teacher and coach of writing. She is a proponent of preserving our history through the art of narration.

Thomas’ presentation will be geared to preserving personal experiences as well as those of families and friends. She will provide tips for putting an interviewee at ease, questioning techniques, and conducting interviews. She encourages participants to bring any cassette tapes or micro-cassettes that they might already possess with them to the presentation.

Thomas has written hundreds of feature stories, columns, and personal profiles.

The author of five books, she also has contributed to anthologies such as Chicken Soup for the Soul, and Hope and Resilience in the Time of COVID.

Her recent book awards include a Will Rogers Medallion for Veterans’ Voices and Home Front Memories and an independent Publisher award for Saddles and Service. She also has been recognized with Texas and national newspaper awards, as well as by the International Society of Family History Writers and Editors.
