COLUMBUS — A new exhibit highlighting the acrylic works of La Grange artist John Schaffer is set to open at Live Oak Art Gallery this Saturday, March 23.

Schaffer specializes in realistic paintings of traditional imagery and hyper-realistic paintings of automobiles.

An opening reception for the exhibit is set for Friday, April 12, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Schaffer holds a bachelor of science in commercial art from Southwest Texas State University. He taught high school art for several years after graduation before entering the corporate world.

After retiring from the corporate world in 2011, Shaffer returned to his love of art and began painting full time.

When he returned to painting, he changed his focus from abstract to realistic and honed his talents to create photo-realistic paintings.

He is a professional member of the International Guild of Realism, and his work was exhibited in the group’s 12th International Juried Show in Carmel, Calif.

His work is presently part of the LUSTER traveling museum exhibit at the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Schaffer has won numerous state and national awards including third prize in the prestigious Bold Brush contest in 2017. Bold Brush is an International On-Line Art contest. His work has been published in magazines and most recently in Acrylics Works 5: The Best of Acrylic Painting.

Live Oak Art Center, located at 1014 Milam in Columbus, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization; the center operates The Courtyard Wine Bar.
