Three Columbus students big winners in DRT art contest
AUSTIN – Six young artists from the Daughters of the Republic of Texas District VIII, including three from Columbus, were recognized at the DRT Republic of Texas Museum 2019 Art Contest Awards Ceremony and Reception on Saturday, June 22, 2019. The awards ceremony was conducted at the Texas State Capitol in Austin, Texas.
Peyton Drozd, age 9, Columbus, placed first in the first through fifth grades category for his work, “Alley Log Cabin.”
Riley Kainer, age 9, Columbus, placed second in the same category for another work entitled “Alley Log Cabin.”
Addison Theriot, age 9, Columbus, placed third for “Robson’s Castle.”
Last fall, the Republic of Texas Museum Committee invited Texas students in grades 1-12 to enter an art contest to document Texas Historical sites, events, activities and individuals prior to 1850. Competition to place first, second, or third was within each district and category, and winners in each category could receive a certificate, ribbon and monetary prize.
Three hundred fifty nine students entered the contest from across the state, from nine of the ten DRT districts. DRT District VIII is composed of the following counties: Blanco, Bandera, Bastrop, Burleson, Caldwell, Colorado, Comal, Gillespie, Gonzales, Guadalupe, Hays, Kendal, Kerr, Lee, Llano, Mason, McCullough, Real, Travis, and Williamson.
