COLUMBUS – The Colorado County Citizen will be serving award-winning barbecue from Sandtown Catering outside the Citizen offices, 2025 Texas Highway 71 on Thursday, March 28 beginning at 10:30 a.m. and concluding at 2 p.m.

Brisket, chopped beef sandwiches, links, chips, and drinks will be available for purchase. A chopped beef sandwich will be priced at $7.50. A sausage wrap will be sold for $4. A sausage rope will be sold for $9; brisket will be sold by the pound for $15. Pork by the pound is $12.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of chips and drinks, which will be sold by The Citizen, will be given to Boy Scouts of America Troop

312.

“We plan to bring in some type of food—a food truck, a caterer, a barbecue pit—every week, to help us get the opportunity to visit with more people in our community each week,” said Citizen Publisher Michelle Banse Stokes.

If the event is successful, Stokes said The Citizen would continue the program through the entire year.

“Our plan is to do this weekly, on Thursdays during Lent and on Fridays thereafter,” Stokes said.

While the Citizen will collect all proceeds for simplicity, the food vendor on site will retain all funds for the sale of their food products. The Citizen will sell drinks, chips. A portion of proceeds from those sales will be donated weekly to an area non-profit organization.

The Citizen selected Boy Scouts of America Troop 312 as the inaugural recipient of the funds.
